LAUREN:
As a future teacher I can incorporate fundamental movement skills in my classroom through other learning areas like
the arts by encouraging active participation through dance and drama.
Students will use the fundamental movement skills in drama by demonstrating movements through their actions while
performing. Dance requires the students and the teacher to use locomotive and body management skills through coordination and patterns when moving and completing a routine.
I believe it is important for students to be encouraged to be active in all aspects of their lives. Incorporating it into
a lesson like dance can make physical activity enjoyable.
TABITHA:
My idea of implementing fundamental movement skills would be to use it as part of a transitional game in the classroom. I endevour to teach the younger years which tend to get a bit distracted between activities. By using FMS I can quickly transition between subjects as well as incorporating the skills they need to practise. I will use instructions such as "hop to put your book into your big tray and then skip to the mat" or "jump up, turn around, shake it all around then sit down again". By using these movements, students will have a chance to practise their skills and also move around a bit before focusing on the next lesson. There is also a great song which involves the movements which is a great transition game before writing because it sets the students up sitting at their desk properly holding their pencils which is included in the teacher references page.
RAE:
For me now having the knowledge of how important mastery of fundamental movement skills are has influenced me in my future teaching. I now understand that it is imperative to be inclusive during physical education lessons and to pick up and take notice of the students who aren't doing as well as the other students or are struggling at a particular skill. I will ensure that these students have the opportunity to improve and practise these skills. I also believe that parents should receive up to date feedback on how their child is doing at physical education so they are not left behind and can receive the support from parents to help them practise the skills they need to master.
LARRA:
Ways in which I can incorporate Fundamental Movement Skills into everyday activities can be through the use of Morning fitness. Students love to get out in the morning and prepare their brains for learning with some physical activities, why not make this a series of games which support the learning and mastering of Fundamental Movement Skills which will be with students for the rest of their lives. I feel that from gathering the knowledge I have now on FMS I have the understanding to implement these through my everyday teaching and ensuring my students benefit and grow from this.
